One of the joys of running a china replacement service is the feedback and unexpected messages that one sometimes received from clients.
A previous Poole Pottery client emailed me today and with her permission, I have reproduced the content of her email below:
"Hi Chris,
Two years ago, I bought several ramekin dishes from your pottery replacement service to replace two of mine that had stuck together. I had tried all the recommended separation solutions, but to no avail.
Yesterday, I came across my 2 original dishes and tried again to separate them and, to my delight, they almost flew apart. I had left them for about 18 months with the residue of vegetable oil that I had used to try to ease them apart and it had crusted around the upper dish and must have eventually seeped through where they were stuck firmly together, thus lubricating them.
Just thought that you could pass on this to anyone else who has the same problem.

At first I thought to myself that the advise was unlikely to come in handy, but when I thought a bit further, I decided that at some time or other most of us must have come across a situation where one ceramic items was jammed inside another. I remember having to carefully smash a ceramic flower pot in order to retrieve a bowl that had become jammed inside. Never again, I will just soak it in vegetable oil for two years.

Thank you for sharing Susan's comment on stuck ramekins. I, too, am a sufferer. It was heartening to hear a word of encouragement on your site. It just shows there's nothing like the internet to build community--I no longer feel so alone. I'll be in touch in two years and we'll see how the whole thing turns out.

It was rather like magic when I found, through you, Susan and Chris, the solution to the sticking together of two of my ramekins.
I discovered them this morning,
tried the usual de-sticking methods, unsuccessfully, then threw the question to the web.
