One of the issues that many of our clients seem to come up against is that they are unable to find information about the particular ranges of collectable items. 

The internet is a wonderful tool for research but sometimes, if you are not used to it, it can all seem a bit overwhelming. POOLE POTTERY STONEWARE, SPARROW ON A WHEAT EAR

We have recently obtained this lovely Poole Pottery stoneware model of a sparrow, perched on a ear of wheat. It is one of the less common items from this range and is quite difficult to find in such good condition. 

As with most of the stoneware animal figurines produced by Poole Pottery, it was designed by Barbar Linley-Adams. It stands approximately 3.8" tall and is in excellent condition. This stoneware sparrow model was only produced from approximately 1980 to 1984.

HARVEST TABLEWARE FROM MARKS AND SPENCER 

Marks and Spencer sold the Harvest range of tableware for many years. Although the bulk of the pottery items were produced for them by Hornsea Pottery, there were also other manufacturers who produced particular items. This resulted in an enormous and varied range of tableware, serving ware and decorative items all produced under the same general pattern. 

We have now been selling this range for about 20 years so you would think that we had seen all of the variations by now. Not so however.  Items that we purchased this week in immaculate condition, included some serving ware with a khaki/brown base, presumable to provide additional protection for oven to tableware items. We have also come up with a long handled, melamine, large straining bowl - a very attractive piece.

POOLE POTTERY STONEWARE QUAIL

You only need to look at any of the stoneware animals that Barbara Linley Adams modelled for Poole Pottery to see her love of the subject. There just seems to be some special life and passion that she put into her work. 

Poole Pottery produced Barbara's quail model from about 1974 to 1981. The model stands approximately five inches tall. It is quite hard to find in good condition and it is such a lovely piece that when we get one in stock, I usually have some misgivings when it has to be sold.

ROYAL DOULTON CAMELOT

Royal Doulton have produced and discontinued an incredible number of tableware patterns over the years, and in fairness, many of them have been forgotten about and we certainly never get asked for them. However, there are some patterns that have not been manufactured for many years and yet are still used and loved in many households.

One such pattern in Camelot, pattern code TC1016. It ranks along side Burgundy, Larchmont, Sonnet, and others as being a classic of its time and a joy for future times. Camelot's simple classic style did not prevent the designers from including a wide range of products to cater for all of a households tableware needs. 

We are delighted to have purchased a range of items in the Camelot pattern in excellent condition and we have made them available on our website at Replace Your China.

JOHNSON BROS, ETERNAL BEAU

Eternal Beau is probably one of the most readily recognised of all of the hundreds of tableware patterns produced by Johnson Brothers. Its octagonal shape was a trend setter in its day and I can still remember how several of my elderly relations stocked up on it and thought it was wonderful. 

Unfortunately, Johnson Bros (or Wedgwood who took over Johnson Bros) discontinued the range many years ago and it is now difficult to find items that are in good condition. They particularly seemed to suffer from chips to the underside of the corners of the plates - I suspect they got bashed against taps when being washed up.

POOLE POTTERY STONEWARE ANIMALS AND BIRDS

As time goes by some aspects of an existing website need to be changed. We have just obtained quite a large quantity of Poole Pottery stoneware animals and birds and will be adding them to the website over the next week or so. 

Previously these stoneware items, mostly designed by Barbara Linley-Adams were listed with our Poole Pottery Decorative Items, but that list has now become too long and unwieldy so we have started a new sub-category headed "POOLE POTTERY STONEWARE ANIMALS AND BIRDS " to make it easier for collectors to see which of these items are currently available. 

For the same reason we will also be adding new sub-category listings for the highly collectable Poole Pottery stoneware plates and the Poole Pottery Dolphin Blue animals.

ROYAL ALBERT OLD COUNTRY ROSES

BUTTER KNIFE

Even after all these years in the discontinued tableware business, it is amazing how often I come across an item that I have not seen before. It happened this week when I bought a large quantity of Royal Albert Old Country Roses. Sadly, many of the items turned out to be "seconds" (in fairness Royal Albert seconds are often better than the first quality items produced by modern manufacturers), but at least they were all made in England as opposed to foreign versions often seen. 

In amongst this mixed lot of Old Country Roses, I found this little knife. It is just under 5.5" in length and I can only imagine that it was produced as a butter knife, although I suspect that some knowledgeable reader may correct me on that. It is always fascinating to find something new to me.

POOLE POTTERY STONEWARE

WREN ON STUMP

Poole Pottery produced many stoneware sculptures of animals and birds, most of them lovingly designed by Barbara Linley-Adams.  The wren on the stump is a model that is particularaly sought after by collectors, because it was only produced by Poole Pottery in 1972. The pottery had received feedback from customers and also staff, that the design was a little top heavy and very prone to being knocked over and damaged. The model was therefore redesigned to show the wren sitting on an apple. As a result not many of the original wrens were produced and many collectors do not have this particular item.

Poole Pottery Puffin in Dolphin Blue Glaze

This lovely puffin was designed and modelled for Poole Pottery by Barbara Linley Adams and glazed in Dolphin Blue. It was one of the early designs that Barbara produced for the factory in this range of animals and birds. The puffin stands just under 4" tall.  It was only produced between 1989 and 1995 and is extemely rare and much sought after.
